Hyderabad: Amid accusations and counter-accusations regarding drawing of the waters of the Krishna river over and above the amount allocated to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) will convene a meeting of its three-member committee to decide the amounts to be allocated for the year 2018-19.

Telangana has complained to the Board that Andhra Pradesh was drawing more water from the Pothireddy padu head regulator. Andhra Pradesh has complained that Telangana State is drawing more water from the Srisailam right bank power station.

KRMB chairman A.K. Jain said that according to the State Reorganisation Act, 2014, KRMB had to start setting up a KRMB office at Vijayawada. He said a delegation will be visiting Vijayawada to assess the arrangements made there to carry on the work.

A member of the KRMB said that the implementation of the telemetry/automatic data acquisition system has been done at various locations in order to observe the inflow and outflow data and maintain a proper account of the withdrawal of water as demanded by both states.

Telangana chief secretary S.K. Joshi had demanded to monitor of water drawn by AP by installing the telemetry system.

According to Bojja Dasarath Reddy, president of a farmers’ association, the Nagarjuna Sagar dam has reached almost full storage, and he has thus appealed to both governments not to maintain 854 ft FRL at Srisailam in order to help Rayalaseema farmers to protect their crops.

So far only 18 telemetry stations have been established in phase-I — four points at Srisailam, seven points at Nagarjuna Sagar and seven points at Jurala. Pune based Mechatronics Systems was given the contract costing `2,61,35,500.

Telemetric stations are yet to be installed at Pulichintala, Prakasam barrage, and at several river points — Munnuru river point, Polvavarm RMC, Paleru river point, Musi river point and NS Tail pond (13 points).

Also at Tungabhadra project, river confluence points and reservoir downstream points: Banakacherla RC, Muchumarri LIS CWC sites of Bawapuram, Krishna Agraharam, Deosagar, Doddipadu, Sunkesula, KC canal, RDS, downstream of Nagarjuna Sagar project and Srisailam (15 points).
