Breaking a dry spell, Hyderabad received 3 cm of rainfall on Friday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation that has formed over the West Central Bay of Bengal.

Heavy rain was recorded at BHEL, Begumpet, Nampally, Khairatabad, Narayanguda, Trimulgherry and Amberpet. The rain brought relief from the rising day temperatures which stood about 6ºC above normal.

The rain also disrupted traffic across twin cities, including at Ravindra Bharathi Junction towards Lakdikapul, Mahaveer Hospital. Bible House, Ghasmandi Junction, Bata Junction and Banjara Hills. Traffic congestion was reported at Balkampet, Old Bowenpally check post, Begumpet flyover and Tadban.

Heavy rainfall across TS has been forecast for the next 48 hours; the intensity is likely to dip after Saturday, said Mahesh Palawat, vice-president of meteorology and climate, Skymet. The state is receiving humid winds from the Bay of Bengal, which helps in cloud formation.
