GHMC to bring wine shops into trade licence net

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is mulling over to bring all wine shops into trade license net. The civic body officials have now decided to collect trade license fee from wine shops and their permit rooms in order to enhance revenues. The corporation officials claim that GHMC would mop-up at least Rs 20 crore through this move.


According to highly placed sources in the corporation, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Monday held a meeting with the zonal commissioner and was shocked to learn that the civic body has not been collecting trade license fee from about 550 wine shops (including permit rooms) in the core city and 700 wine shops (including permit rooms) in the peripheral circles. Sources said that the GHMC Chief has directed the Zonal Commissioner to verify and bring all wine shops into the trade license net.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the civic body Commissioner had asked them to verify the corporations database and check whether wine shops were in trade license net or not. He said that the commissioner has also asked the officials to verify the same with excise department and check whether they have been including the trade license fee prior to according permission to the wine shops in the GHMC limits.The GHMC official further said that the corporation would soon bring all wine shops into the trade license net that would generate about Rs 20 crore.
