Anganwadi workers become teachers, get salary hike

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday announced elevation of Anganwadi workers to that of teachers, besides hiking their salaries from the present Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,500.


The salaries of those working at mini Anganwadi centres and helpers would be hiked to Rs 6,000 from present Rs 4,500. The decision would benefit 67,411 employees working in 35,700 centres across the state.

The Chief Minister assured that based on the seniority and qualifications of the Anganwadi teachers would be promoted as supervisors. He said they would also be made eligible for insurance scheme and would be given priority in the allotment of double bed room houses.

KCR announced that Rs 12,000 would be given in three installments to women who deliver their babies in the government hospitals. If the newborn is a female child an additional amount of Rs 1,000 would be given. 

This scheme will start from April 1. In addition to this, the just born babies will be given a special kit worth Rs 2000 containing items required for a baby. The kit would be named as KCR Kit.

KCR said fine rice would be supplied to the Anganwadi centres to cook rice for the pregnant, lactating mothers and the infants from March. He reiterated that, under the Arogya Laxmi scheme, pregnant women, lactating mothers and children would be given nutritious food, milk and eggs.
